Explore the natural beauty of the Texas Hill Country
Scenic paved trail following the beautiful Cibolo Creek through the heart of Boerne. Perfect for walking, jogging, and cycling.
Bernie's Tip: Start early morning to spot deer and enjoy cooler temperatures. The section near River Road Park has the best creek views!
Summit Trail is a challenging 0.8-mile hike to the top of the massive pink granite dome. The trail features a 425-foot elevation gain, equivalent to climbing a 30-40 story building. Offers stunning panoramic views of the Texas Hill Country.
Bernie's Tip: Arrive early and make reservations! The summit gets crowded by mid-morning. Wear grip-soled shoes for the granite surface. Bring water - there's no shade on the climb.
A 4.6-mile trail that circles around the base of Enchanted Rock and Little Rock. Features diverse ecosystems, boulder fields, and seasonal wildflowers. Much easier than the summit trail.
Bernie's Tip: Perfect for families and those who want to experience Enchanted Rock without the steep climb. Spring wildflower season (March-May) is spectacular!
The East Trail offers a 6.2-mile loop through the Sabinal River Valley with stunning fall foliage, limestone canyons, and clear spring-fed pools. Famous for its bigtooth maple trees.
Bernie's Tip: Visit in late October/early November for peak fall colors. The limestone bluffs provide great photo opportunities. Swimming holes are perfect for cooling off in summer.
100 acres of hill country habitat with miles of walking trails through four distinct ecosystems. Features dinosaur tracks and prairie restoration areas.
Bernie's Tip: Don't miss the dinosaur tracks! Join a guided nature walk on Saturdays to learn about local flora and fauna.
17-acre lake perfect for kayaking, canoeing, and fishing. Non-motorized boats only. Catch and release fishing with valid Texas license.
Bernie's Tip: Sunrise kayaking is magical here! Rental kayaks available on weekends. Great bass fishing from the dock.
5,369 acres of rugged hill country terrain with 40+ miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. Primitive camping available.
Bernie's Tip: Twin Peaks Trail offers the best panoramic views! Visit in spring for wildflowers. Bring plenty of water - it's remote!
200-acre preserve with natural spring, limestone cliffs, and diverse ecosystems. Features challenging hiking trails and rock climbing areas.
Bernie's Tip: The Overlook Trail leads to stunning views of the Cibolo Creek valley. Spring-fed pools are perfect for cooling off!
4 miles of Guadalupe River frontage perfect for swimming, tubing, and kayaking. Limestone cliffs and bald cypress trees create stunning scenery.
Bernie's Tip: The swimming hole near the day-use area is perfect for families. Rent tubes from the park store for a relaxing float!
One of Texas' most popular parks along the crystal-clear Frio River. Famous for tubing, dancing, and family-friendly camping. Features limestone bluffs and old-growth cypress trees.
Bernie's Tip: Summer evenings feature live music and dancing at the pavilion! Book cabins well in advance. The Frio River is perfect for tubing and swimming.
Small but beautiful park on the Blanco River with crystal-clear swimming holes, limestone formations, and shaded camping areas. Perfect for families and day trips.
Bernie's Tip: The natural limestone pools are perfect for kids! Visit on weekdays to avoid crowds. Great for a quick cool-off during summer.
Natural spring-fed swimming holes with a 30-foot waterfall, rope swing, and crystal-clear pools. 32 springs feed this beautiful oasis with year-round 70-75Β°F water.
Bernie's Tip: The rope swing is a blast! Water stays cool year-round - perfect for hot Texas summers. Camping available if you want to stay overnight.
8,230-acre reservoir perfect for boating, fishing, swimming, and water sports. Multiple parks around the lake offer different recreation opportunities.
Bernie's Tip: Comal Park has the best swimming areas. North Park is great for fishing. Potter's Creek is perfect for paddling and quieter activities.
100-foot deep cave featuring a 60-foot underground waterfall. Guided tours showcase stunning limestone formations and the only underground waterfall in Texas open to the public.
Bernie's Tip: The underground waterfall is truly spectacular! Tours are climate-controlled year-round. Perfect activity for hot summer days or rainy weather.
